16 celebs opening restaurants (in case their careers nosedive?)

We'd eat at Scarlett Johansson's Yummy Pop popcorn parlour and You Know Nothing John Dough bakery by Ben Hawkey (aka GoT's Hot Pie). Maybe restaurants are a good plan B after all?

1. Moroccan and Ryan Gosling

When chef Ben Benameur's shared his passion for Moroccan flavours with his close pal Ryan Gosling, "Ryan told Ben it was 'the food I want to eat for the rest of my life!' The only problem was that there wasn’t a place in L.A. where they served food like that," . So they opened  in Beverly Hills.
2. Southern-style BBQ and Justin Timberlake

Created by friends Justin Timberlake, Eytan Sugarman and Trace Ayala in 2007, is a Memphis-style BBQ restaurant and bar located in New York. Fried chicken, slaw, burgers, prime ribs and sides galore grace their finger-licking menu. Kick-off with this brisket chilli covered in cheddar cheese...
3. Japanese fusion and Robert de Niro

International restaurateur and renowned chef  owns the empire of 38 restaurants worldwide. Alongside Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro co-founded and provided creative direction for the Nobu restaurants. You can find out more about this venture and our interview with Nobu .
4. Popping popcorn with Scarlett Johansson

It's not every day you see superstars go full-throttle with their love of popcorn. Scarlett Johansson has done just that, opening  an entire store in Paris to popping flavour. Welcome to the world of , where you can expect flavour combos of truffle, parmesan, and sage; chocolate strawberries; and Canadian maple caramel, just to drop a few names.
5. Ping pong and a sustainable bar menu with Susan Sarandon

In the summer of 2009, , which is co-owned by Susan Sarandon, opened its flagship store location in New York City. United by ping pong, you can expect games, tournaments, music, weekly events and a kitchen at each of the seven locations. This kitchen has a wicked bar menu that also showcases their commitment to ethical eating practices and a sustainable ingredient list. Ping!
6. Not-For-Profit with Jon Bon Jovi

 is a not-for-profit community restaurant that serves both paying and in-need customers. It is run by the  and there are two current locations in New Jersey. Here you can enjoy a three-course meal with many of the dishes being sourced from their own garden, almost a farm-to-table communal experience. The restaurant's philosophy is that if you can't afford to pay for your meal, no need to worry, you can volunteer your time - 1 hour of volunteering earns a person a dining voucher for up to four people.
7. A Cuban craze with Gloria and Emilio Estefan

24 years on still reigns the Miami Beach shores. Gloria and Emilio Estefan continue to run this award-winning restaurant, with Cuban specialties from sweet and salty bacon-wrapped maduros or black bean hummus with plantain chips to fresh ceviche and papas rellenas (crispy mashed potato filled with Cuban picadillo). And of course there's dessert; you had us at arroz con leche (rice pudding) but you know there are many more to lick your sweet lips over.
8. Korean with Quentin Tarantino

 is a modern Korean restaurant in New York City. With several tables of built-in barbecue grills, vibrant cocktail concoctions, and a DJ booth, this restaurant serves the Korean musts of bulgogi, kimchi and bibimbap beneath retro lighting alongside a salute to their co-owner Tarantino with movie-poster-covered menus.
9. Burgers with the Wahlbergs

With 10 locations under their belt, the Wahlberg brothers have been running since 2011. They started the restaurant in the hopes of recreating and sharing their family favourites and grilling sensations - and they've done just that. On the menu, you'll find burgers, onion rings, frappes, and floats aplenty. Wahlburgers also has its own that looks at not only the burger joint but also the whole family.
10. 100s & 1000s with Jessica Biel

Restaurant, full-service bar, custom cakes and fun for kids, big and small, welcome to. Kids' slumber movie nights, cooking classes, storytime, crafts, kids' yoga and freeze dance party - it's a giant playground. Pop into the restaurant and you'll find a brunch, lunch, dinner, dessert, and wine menu and if you are in the market for decadent cakes of the unicorn, dragon or snowflake varieties, then they've got that covered as well.
11. Wine and dine with Francis Ford Coppola

Wine, food, adventure at Drawing on a life that has taken him around the world, Coppola shares his personal recipes at the on-premises restaurant, Rustic. The menu shares international and traditional Italian dishes with the focus being home-style and family - which of course means there's pizza on the menu.
12. French with Gerard Depardieu

 is a townhouse turned restaurant located in central Paris. The menu changes frequently and yes, the owner is Gérard Depardieu. Across the way is the sister (and more intimate) restaurant . It's cosy and the interior is complete with photographs from Gérard's life and career.
13. On the slopes with James Blunt

With his eponymous chair lift, James Blunt created situated in the Verbier Valley, Switzerland, a ski chalet with a lounge, club, and restaurant all on premises and their cheeses are locally sourced. The singer admits he and won't be helping out in the kitchen, but there's a pizza named after him on the menu.
14. A charming corner store with Sandra Bullock

Hybrid bakery, deli, flower shop and catering service,  is Sandra Bullock's Austin star. Open for breakfast, lunch and early evening - gourmet sandwiches, scrumptious desserts and decadent sweets fill the glass cabinets at this local and very charming corner store.
15. Jamaican with Usain Bolt

In Kingston and Ocho Rios in Jamaica, you'll find the restaurants , backed by Usain Bolt. The restaurant celebrates Jamaican food and culture with all things Bolt. Expect to find rum BBQ wings, plantain chips, jerk pans, curried mutton crockpots and their own U-Burger range. The restaurant is set to expand and open over the next five years, so you'll definitely see more of Bolt's face outside of the sporting arena.
16. Baked goods are coming (already here) with Ben Hawkey [a.k.a Hot Pie from GoT]

The real-life Hot Pie, Ben Hawkey, from the HBO cult series Game of Thrones has opened up a GoT-themed bakery in London called You Know Nothing Jon Dough. Apart from feeding a genius title to GoT devotees, these Direwolf loaves - wholemeal cornbreads with orange zest - have already become a hit. And yes, you could get them to your door for one pound ($AUD 1.64).
