Eaten either fresh or dried, dates are a rich, sweet and easy win. They're a delightful way to break fast during Ramadan or to cap off an evening meal. Save the date this Ramadan with these nine winners.

There really is something so satisfying about dates and often when breaking fast, a simple date will do the trick. But if you wanted to get a little creative with your dates this Ramadan, then these recipes are great. You can make these ahead, they serve plenty and they are easily stored, so when the sunsets and it is time to eat, you can easily feed a crowd.

These are also great date ideas even if you don't partake in Ramadan and are looking to take your date to the next level.

9. Ma'amoul / maamoul

These fantastic biscuits can have many variations, and dates are a common choice for the filling. Jasmin Rose Ibrahim's (pictured) uses a yeasted dough and a date, butter and nutmeg filling, while uses rosewater and orange water in the deliciously crumbly shortbread and a date, cardamon and cinnamon filling. Take your date to the next level by piping a little ricotta, mascarpone and cream in the centre of your ma'amoul. Then if you are feeling a little nutty, you can pop some almonds on top!
