When a cake baked to resemble a geological formation goes viral because it looks like a vagina, we’re reminded of just how much the Internet has changed our lives for the better.
, a bakery based in Minnesota in north US, shared a photo of a “beautiful geode rock cake” on Facebook last month, expecting to receive an influx of orders for the one-off creation.
Instead, the photo was inundated with comments from Facebook users likening the cake to female genitalia.
The photo has since been shared over 30,000 times, liked by 18,000 people and has more than 12,000 comments, most of which pertain in some way to vaginas.
The ‘vageode’ cake, as it’s now known, became an instant phenomenon.
There are so many comments so I’m not sure if this has been asked - Nadia Cakes is this cake moist?
Some highlights:
“I’m a midwife … that is a vulva plain and clear in my book. She has just vagazzled,” one commenter said.
One person equated the cake with a work of fine art: “The Georgia O'Keefe of cakes.”
And then there was this very important question:
“There are so many comments so I’m not sure if this has been asked - is this cake moist?”
People will rarely miss an opportunity to make a dirty joke, it seems. The party continued on the Nadia Cakes page, too.
To her credit, Nadia Cakes founder Abby Jimenez and her spectacular Facebook page admins are approaching their newfound fame with plenty of wit and good humour.
“*Sighs* You know, we won Cupcake Wars once. And Food Network's Holiday Baking Championship too. This is a dignified, accomplished establishment with talented staff and pride. *Opens up package of hot dogs*”
And they may be learning new things about their fan base, too. “Well, it's official. Our customers are 50 per cent rock enthusiasts and 50 per cent perverts.”
But we know what you’re all really wondering is what happened to the cake. Much to the dismay of vagina/cake fans everywhere, the vageode cake was never actually sold. They put it on display in the window of the store, and then this happened:
Not to worry, though. It seems another Vageode cake might be in the works.
