This Christmas cake isn't only a work of art but makes a political statement too

This new ice cream cake has a message for NSW Premier Mike Baird and his lockout laws.

Santa Claus has a big task ahead of him on Christmas Eve. Sending millions of children presents in just one night is no easy feat.

With that knowledge in mind, well-known Australian ice creamery Gelato Messina wants to tell Christmas lovers that Santa’s job could get a lot harder when he gets to Sydney. As supporters of the campaign, Messina claims the lockout laws or as they phrase it “the lockout claus” could throw a spanner in Santa’s scheduling.

“Eagerly awaiting your present delivery on Christmas Eve? Sydney residents, make sure you leave your cookies and milk out early – even Santa’s not safe from the lockout claus!” reads their .

Messina’s reminder comes in a more tangible form, too – their annual Christmas cake.
“This year’s Christmas cake signifies the real life situation you could end up in this Christmas if Mike Baird gets his wicked way and keeps Sydney on lock down at night.  Dear old Santa has a lot to get through in one night – there’s no clocking off for this guy so making it in past lockout could be more no, no, no than ho, ho, ho,” their website reads.

The cake is made of caramel gelato, cherry sorbet, chewy caramel, chocolate mousse, and chocolate sponge.  It comes with a bottle of warm vanilla brandy custard, to be poured over just before serving.

Who’d have thought a political statement could look so tasty!
