Dina Abdel-Mageed is a journalist and a researcher who brings to her work a combination of academic excellence and professional experience.

She has 15 years of experience in digital journalism, during which she worked and freelanced for prestigious publications.  

She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science. In 2014, she was awarded a scholarship by the University of Sydney to do a Master of Digital Communication and Culture, a competitive coursework degree that offers a program of study on multiple aspects of digital communication and culture.

Being one of the best performers in the program, she won the Australian Press Council Prize for Outstanding Performance in Postgraduate Media Ethics and Law Unit of Study.

In 2017, she completed another master’s degree by research in media and communication at the University of Sydney. Her research interests include digital technology and the intersection between media, religion and politics.

She joined the SBS Arabic24 team in February 2021 as a producer. She has a passion for exploring and writing about the stories of the Arab community in Australia, particularly immigrant women.

Also, she is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne. She is researching the portrayal of Islam and Muslims in the Australian media.

In May 2021, as part of the SBS Arabic24 team, she participated in devising and analysing the results of a survey on vaccine hesitancy among the Arab-speaking community in Australia.
