Manager Carmen Lazar spoke to SBS about the latest from the ARC. She said that she is working from home and been receiving customers calls about different issues and requests.
She talks about the latest teleconferencing through ZOOM with department of immigration. She points out that she discussed the case of the newly arrivals through the community support program previously known as the Pilot Program and how the closure of businesses due to the corona virus is affecting them as they are new in the country and they became the first casualty of people loosing their jobs.
Mrs Lazar said that during this conference, she asked the immigration officials to find a way in helping those people.
Assyrian resource centre sent emails to about seventy families whom one or few members of the family lost their jobs, asking them to bring a letter from their employer confirming their dismissal. All these letters were collected and sent to the department of immigration, officials from immigration acknowledge receiving the letters and promised to look into the matter.
