Last week, when the world in the midst of what's going on in the US Capitol, AUD and the Bond market quietly outperform our US counterparts as been reported by REFINITIVE. The question is why are we doing so well?
To answer this question today we have Dr. Tonmoy Choudhury from the Department of Finance and Accounting, School of Business and law, Edith Cowan University, Perth where he works as a lecturer in Finance and Accounting.

- Thank you very much for having me. It's an absolute pleasure to be back. We are doing well in every simple term in the financial book from the rest of the world. Yes, I agree that we are also like the rest of the world very concern about what is going on in the US given our significant bilateral connection. However, I do not think or feel that it is going to impact us. This was somewhat expected and surely will be forgotten in the next couple of weeks.
Moving on, first let's talk about AUD. How does it outperform the USD?
- Because we are doing well and we are forecasted to do better in the future compare to the US and the rest of the world. Our strong response to the border and overall support to the economy have pushed us ahead in the post COVID world. Thus our currency is enjoying our financial success in the financial market.
How about the Aussie bonds? How it is doing well the USA?
- Same as discussed. Our bond market is doing so well that it is at a seven-month high. I would personally point out the Reserve Bank’s controlled borrowing plan has played a major role in this. I believe it is all in the planning. Australia currently outperforms any developing countries when it comes to financial and fiscal planning at a macro level.
How do you predict the future of the AUD and Aussie bonds?
- At this point, very good compare to the rest of the world. But I will be cautious same as any investors. A special characteristic of the current passing time is, anything can happen and given the delicate condition of the global market, we might see a darker picture in the future.
Thank you very much for talking with us.
- You're welcome.
