Award-winning choreographer Akram Khan is British by birth, Bangladeshi by family heritage and known around the world for his contemporary dance works.
His latest piece Outwitting the Devil will make its Australian Premiere at this year’s OzAsia Festival. Inspired by the newly discovered fragment of the Babylonian Epic of Gilgamesh, one of the world’s earliest surviving great works of literature, Outwitting the Devil is a concentrated piece of dance theatre about ritual and remembering. It will feature a superb ensemble of six dancers from Taiwan, Australia, The Philippines, the US and France.
OzAsia Festival is Australia’s leading contemporary arts festival engaging with Asia and will run from October 17 to November 3.
This year’s program includes 35 Adelaide exclusives including five world-first performances and 22 Australian premieres across 60 events – everything from music, theatre and dance to film, literature and art. Outwitting the Devil will be performed at Adelaide Festival Centre’s Dunstan Playhouse from November 1-2.
