The Federal Immigration Minister denies reports that proposed changes to the citizenship test will no longer be going ahead. The changes, which were announced in 2017, would make permanent residents wait longer and require evidence of their English proficiency before they can apply.


In Melbourne's famed culinary melting pot on Lygon Street, Trio is filled with sweet treats from Syria.

Syrian refugee Akram Abu Hamdan runs the store speaking to a hundred customers on any given day.

He thinks his English is not the best because he has had little opportunity to study it.
