Should gender quotas be introduced in politics?

The pressure is mounting on the Coalition government to increase the number of women in its ranks after a series of resignations from high-profile women. With the number of female representatives in the Liberal Party far behind that of their Labor counterparts, many are asking if it is time to introduce gender quotas.


After being on the verge of election to the Senate twice and missing out, disability advocate Hollie Hughes is now all but guaranteed election after winning the top spot on the NSW Liberal's ticket.

The long-time Liberal official says she doesn't believe her gender has had much to do with her political success. But Ms Hughes says it is a sign that the tides are turning.
