Childcare will be free for Australian parents still using it during the coronavirus crisis.
The Federal Government will support 13,000 childcare centres across the country to remain open in the wake of enrolment and attendance numbers plummeting.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said childcare was an essential service to keep all parents who still had jobs in the current economy in that work.
"Childcare and early childhood education is critical," Mr Morrison told reporters in Canberra. "Particularly for those Australians who rely on it so they can go to work every day, particularly those who are working in such critical areas."
More to come.
