COVID-19 update: ACT extends lockdown, authorities ask people to consider the AstraZeneca vaccine

New South Wales

NSW has recorded 1,164 new locally acquired cases, 796 in western and south-western Sydney. Three people have died.

Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant urges Guildford, Merrylands, Auburn, Greenacre, Bankstown and Blacktown residents to get tested.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard advises anyone over 18 to get the AstraZeneca vaccine as there is not enough of the Pfizer vaccine.

An Aboriginal man in Dubbo was announced on Monday as the first person to die from COVID-19 in the current outbreak in western New South Wales.

Victoria

Victoria has recorded 76 new locally acquired cases, including 31 not yet linked to existing outbreaks.

Premier Andrews, who will announce a plan for easing restrictions tomorrow, says ‘the right vaccine is the one you can get’, pointing out plenty of the AstraZeneca vaccine is available.

The ACT has recorded 13 new locally acquired cases, with at least eight in the community while infections.

Canberra’s new COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic will open at the Australian Institute of Sport Arena on Friday, 3 September. The lockdown is extended until 17 September with

new restrictions in place from 5pm on Thursday
