COVID-19 update: Australia considers Pfizer booster dose for teenagers

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) is reviewing evidence on Comirnaty (Pfizer) before the vaccine is approved as a booster in 12- to 15-year-olds.

ATAGI has urged parents of children aged 5-11 to book their appointments for the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

NSW Treasurer Matt Kean has tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is currently isolating for seven days after being found positive on a rapid antigen test. 

Western Australia is likely to ease 'Level 2' measures to 'Level 1' from 12.01 am Thursday 31 March, despite a rise in new COVID cases since 7 March with 2,365 infections. The state reached its peak with 8,616 new cases on 24 March. 

The face mask will continue to be required for people aged 8 and over (and Year 3 and above in school) in places other than home in Western Australia. Click  for more information.

Professor Catherine Bennett, Chair of Epidemiology at Deakin University, has cautioned against the over-reliance on RATs due to accuracy issues. She says the accuracy of a RAT differs in house settings. For instance, the results may vary if people had food or brushed their teeth half an hour before the test.

New South Wales: 21,494 new cases, 1,283 in hospital, 53 in ICU, nine deaths

Victoria: 10,916 new cases, 284 in hospital, 33 in ICU, five deaths

Tasmania: 2,324 new cases, 22 in hospital, none in ICU, one death 

Queensland: 7,738 new cases, 325 in hospital, 14 in ICU, nine deaths

Australian Capital Territory: 1,063 new cases, 49 in hospital, four in ICU, zero death

Northern Territory: 408 new cases, 12 in hospital, two in ICU, zero death

South Australia: 4,201new cases, 170 in hospital, seven in ICU and one death

Western Australia: 8,910 new cases, 219 in hospital, six in ICU and one death
