COVID-19 Update: Australia looks towards a ‘vaccinated economy’ in post-pandemic reopening

  • The Federal Government releases a new vaccination program for First Australians
  • Queensland to install pop up vaccination clinics at beaches
  • Victoria lays out its roadmap for opening at 90 per cent vaccination

Victoria

Victoria is expected to reach 80 per cent vaccination target next weekend. Freedom of movement across state will apply from Friday, October 29.

Premier Daniel Andrews said that Victoria expects to fully vaccinate 90 per cent of the over-12 population by November 24.

He said, "What that means, there will be no caps anywhere, there will be no density questions anywhere."
However, the requirement of double vaccination will still apply.

"The vaccinated economy is here to stay," said the Premier.

The state has recorded 1,935 new locally acquired cases and 11 deaths.

New South Wales

New South Wales recorded 296 new locally acquired cases and four deaths.

The state has fully vaccinated over 84 per cent of its over-16 population

The state government has launched a new campaign called 'Feel New South Wales' to promote tourism following the reopening of the state.

Queensland

Queensland has recorded no new cases today.

The government is working with Surf Lifesaving Queensland to install pop-up vaccination clinics at beaches in the coming long weekend.

  • ACT has recorded 9 new coronavirus cases.
  • The Federal Government released a new vaccination campaign 'Spread Freedom' as well as an Indigenous community focussed campaign called 'All of Us' amidst concerns of low vaccination rates amongst First Australians.
  • 86 per cent of Australians have now received their first dose of vaccination while this number remains 60 per cent for First Australians.
