COVID-19 Update: ‘Australia one of the most vaccinated countries of the world,’ says PM

Victoria

Victoria recorded the highest daily COVID death toll with 25 deaths today, as the state records 1,923 new coronavirus cases.

This comes as the state is set to open restrictions tomorrow.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved families and said, “It is the sobering reminder of the terrible reality of this pandemic.”

Victoria Health says those claiming exemption from COVID-19 vaccination will now have to present the copy of Australian Immunisation Register as proof.

New South Wales

New South Wales recorded 293 new locally acquired cases and two deaths.

There are 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19 linked to City Gym in Darlinghurst.

People who used the gym at certain times between 18 and 23 October or on 25 October are considered casual contacts and must immediately get tested and self-isolate until a negative result is received.

Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello said that from Friday, people will receive a push notification through the Service NSW app if they’ve visited an exposure site.

Queensland

Almost 150 Queensland police officers remain suspended following the failure to get vaccinated by October 4 deadline.

Queensland registered no new cases today.
