COVID-19 Update: Border opens between Victoria and NSW as NT on high alert

This is your update on the Coronavirus in Australia for 5 November 2021.

Flights between NSW and Victoria have resumed without any COVID-19 restrictions, as the border between the two states reopens.

Borders are now fully open between New South Wales and Victoria. Families are able to reunite and travel by air on one of the busiest air routes in the world.  

The Northern Territory is on after recording one locally acquired case of COVID-19. It is the first instance of community transmission in the territory and has triggered a 72-hour lockdown.

The National Cabinet for the first time in five weeks to discuss the ongoing COVID-19 situation.  On the agenda are reopening of international borders, vaccinations for children. 

Scientists at the UK's University of Oxford have identified a gene that doubles the risk of lung failure and death from COVID-19. It is especially common among people of South Asian ancestry.
