COVID-19 update: In NSW, one unlinked case sends the regional town of Cowra into lockdown

New South Wales

NSW has recorded 935 new locally acquired cases and four deaths. Currently, 52.7 per cent of eligible residents are fully vaccinated.

In Cowra, a nine-year old boy has tested positive to COVID-19, and several

exposure sites

are listed. The regional town will go into lockdown effective from 5pm. Anyone who was in Cowra from 13 September is urged to "adhere to the stay-at-home requirements." The source of the infection in the town is unknown.

Fragments of the virus have been detected in sewage treatment plans in Dareton in far western NSW.

Victoria

Victoria has recorded 567 new locally acquired cases and one death.

Premier Daniel Andrews says there are 4,800 AstraZeneca and over 2,000 Pfizer vaccine appointments available. He also advises not to wait for more Pfizer due to a National Cabinet warning about availability of the Pfizer vaccine in October.

Australian Capital Territory

The territory has recorded seven new locally acquired cases. ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr says 55 per cent of the eligible population have now received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Children aged 12 to 15 can now book a Pfizer appointment at a government-run vaccination clinic from today.
