COVID-19 Update: No change to booster timeline as NSW suspects first community transmission of Omicron

  • A new case of Omicron infection in NSW is suspected to be the first community transmission of the variant in Australia.
  • Northern Territory has recorded its first COVID death. NT was the only Australian jurisdiction to not have a COVID-related death until now.
  • Federal health minister has announced that the national reopening plan remains unchanged.
  • African-Australian community leaders have criticised the government’s decision to impose travel bans on nine African countries after the emergence of the Omicron variant.
  • Western Australia has banned travellers arriving from South Australia, after elevating the other state's coronavirus risk rating from "low" to "medium.
  • National vaccine expert group, ATAGI, has said that there is no change in the timeline of administrating booster dose.
  • Federal government has announced an additional $540 million funding for COVID protection measures.
  • Tasmania changes its from 15 December.

COVID-19 STATS:

Victoria recorded 1,188 locally acquired cases and 11 deaths.
NSW recorded 337 new community cases. 
The ACT recorded four cases, NT two.
