On Monday, Australia reported at least 19 COVID-19 deaths, including 14 in Victoria, 3 in New South Wales and 1 each in Western Australia and South Australia.

NSW reported 4,486 new COVID-19 cases, its lowest in the past two months, but there has been a rise in hospitalisations in the past days to 1,314.

The NSW premier announced that NSW healthcare workers will receive a $3,000 one-off payment and will increase the cap on wages this year. The payment will be awarded to healthcare workers in light of the workload they endured during the COVID-19 outbreak, following a push for a pay rise from various unions.

NSW has over the weekend identified a fourth case and a probable fifth case of monkeypox in two NSW residents who recently returned from Europe. These cases are not connected to the three previously reported cases in NSW.

Monkeypox is endemic to part of Africa. However, the World Health Organization reports that since mid May, cases of monkeypox have been reported from several countries that are not endemic for monkeypox virus.

As of 2 June, 780 laboratory-confirmed cases of monkeypox have been reported to or identified by WHO from 27 Member States across four WHO regions, not endemic to the monkeypox virus.

People who develop fever and rash should call ahead before consulting their GP or sexual health service.
