COVID-19 update: NSW announces return to face-to-face learning from October

New South Wales

NSW has recorded 882 new locally acquired cases, with more than 80 per cent of cases from western and south-western Sydney. Two men, aged in their 60s and 90s, died.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced a back-to-school plan:

From 25 October - Kindergarten and Year 1 students
From 1 November - Year 2, 6 and 11
From 8 November - Year 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10

Vaccinations for all school staff across all sectors will be mandatory from 8 November, but they will be given priority access to the vaccine from 6 September.

Victoria

Victoria has recorded 79 new locally acquired cases, with 53 linked to known outbreaks and 26 mystery cases.

About 16,000 residents in the Shepparton region, which has a population of 65,000, are believed to be self-isolating, forcing the closure of food distributors, supermarkets and pharmacies due to staff shortages.

Australian Capital Territory

The ACT has recorded 21 new locally acquired cases bringing the total number of active cases to 209.

The national capital has announced

changes for retail business, waste drop-off services, gym and dance schools and real estate business

which will come into effect from 11.59pm today.

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation has approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children between 12 and 15.
