COVID-19 Update: States announce economic packages as NSW and Victoria record lower cases

Victoria

Victoria has recorded 1,466 new locally acquired COVID-19 infections and eight deaths. Of the 675 people in hospital, only seven percent were fully vaccinated.

Premier Daniel Andrews has encouraged Victorians to bring forward their second dose appointments, if possible.

The state has announced a multi-million-dollar investment in healthcare ahead of the state reopening.

$255 million has been announced to support frontline COVID hospital workforces and $2.5 million has been dedicated to recruit 1000 healthcare workers living overseas.

New South Wales

New South Wales recorded 360 new locally acquired cases and five deaths.

Premier Dominic Perrottet announced a business package for state.

Eligible traders will be able to claim a $2,000 rebate for certain services and fees. Substantial rebates have been announced for businesses dealing with perishable stocks ahead of the Christmas season.

“We want business owners to know we have their back,” Mr. Perrottet said.

The state is expected to cross the 80 percent full vaccination target by Monday, the next threshold for easing restrictions.

ACT

The ACT has recorded 28 new cases of which 22 are linked to known cases.

  • Queensland recorded no cases of COVID-19.
  • 82.8% eligible Australian residents have received their first dose of vaccination and 63.4% are fully vaccinated.
  • Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said that the advisory on booster dose for adults will be available before the end of October.
