COVID-19 Update: ‘We are leading the nation out of pandemic’ says NSW premier, as Victoria makes mRNA COVID-19 vaccines available for all ages

New South Wales

New South Wales recorded 496 new locally acquired cases and eight deaths. Two new cases have been reported in quarantine.

The state has lifted restrictions after more than 100 days of lockdown, with gyms, cafes, restaurants, shops and hairdressers able to reopen.

Premier Dominic Perrottet added that wherever possible, businesses should ensure that vaccination information given by patrons is correct. 

Restrictions have cost the state economy around $1 billion a week and the premier pointed to a labour shortage.  

He said he's working with the federal government to bring forward the date to reopen international borders. 

"We can't live here like a hermit kingdom on the other side of the world, we want returning Australians to come back," he said.

Victoria

Victoria has recorded 1,612 new locally acquired COVID-19 infections and eight deaths. There are 677 people hospitalised, with 133 in ICU and 94 on a ventilator.

81,000 vaccines were distributed in the state on Sunday.

Authorities are urging younger people to convince families to take up vaccination.

Health Minister Martin Foley said that the mRNA vaccines, Moderna and Pfizer, will now be available to people of all ages in Victoria. The state has launched a new vaccination awareness campaign ‘Vaccine is the ticket’ ahead of its plans to reopen.

ACT

The ACT has recorded 32 new cases, as 97.8 per cent of people over the age of 12 have now received their first dose of vaccine.
