Eating kangaroo might not be eliciting unanimity in Australia, but it could soon become a necessity.
The kangaroo population is growing dangerously in Australia. In 2010, there were 27 million kangaroos in the country. Last year, that number reached 45 million. These animals affect the ecosystem, but they’re also themselves threathen. Ifthe next summer is dry, they won’t have enough food and millions might starve to death.
To help solve the issue, that several states have offered more permits, but not enough hunters are interested. That’s because the demand for the meat is low, Australians preferring meats like beef, pork and chicken.

Give it a try
Eating kangaroo has several advantages. First, it’s more ethical to eat a wild animal that is killed quickly. Kangaroo is also a lean meat, high in proteins and quite cheap.
The best restaurants in the country, like Attica, in Melbourne, and Orana, in Adelaide, have kangaroo on their menu. So why not eat some at home?
