“Take your coat you’re gonna be cold!”
The most popular joke about Greek Mothers. No matter if it’s a summer breeze or a warm wind coming from Africa, she’s always worried about her children getting cold and covers them with many layers of clothes, a.k.a the “onion effect”, as we like to call it.
“Did you eat? Have something to eat”
Greek mothers are worried about their childrens’ nutrition and always feeding them homemade, traditional food always served with fresh, daily bread and feta cheese.
Your friends like her more than you
A Greek mama always makes sure your friends are her friends too. She’ll feed them even if they aren’t hungry and learn more about them in one night than you knew in your years of friendship.
“No,no don’t worry I will set the table”
When it comes to dinner she is taking care of everything herself. She doesn’t really want other people to interfere so not to spoil her plans and the precise arrangements, like where is everyone going to sit and how the meals are going to be served. (Meat is going in the middle of the table and salads have to be spread all around).
She cleans and cleans and cleans…
Greek mother’s worst nightmare is dust and her sworn enemies are dirty clothes and dishes. She spends a significant amount of time every day cleaning the house, until every surface is neat and shiny.
She values family more than anything and tries her best to keep it together despite all the differences and fights that come up from time to time!
