The Castellorizians’ Association of NSW had once dubbed her “the oldest living Castellorizian - National Treasure”.

Facebook posts by the association on her birthday every year would garner tens of comments from people sending their wishes.

Last Sunday, the Board of Directors of the Association announced on behalf of her daughter Rose Adgemis and her extended family, that Eleni Confos passed away peacefully at the age of 109.5 years.

She was considered the most senior Castellorizian and in fact Greek of Australia, as well as the 10th oldest person in the country.

She migrated Down Under with husband George in 1931 and helped her six younger siblings to follow suit.

Despite life’s many challenges, including having lost her first-born son at the age of 42, she remained strong.

During the past few years, yiayia Eleni was living in a nursing home due to needing 24 hour support. It was there that she celebrated her last birthday in January “in style” and surrounded by loved ones.
