One of the most pressing questions of our time is: how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions? German scientists say that insects could be a key factor, providing a valuable food source for livestock, thus reducing the pressure on the environment.

Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany are investigating how insects could be a source of food for animal feed in the future.

Professor Andreas Vilcinskas, who works at this institute, says that rainforests are being cleared at an alarming rate for soybean cultivation and overfishing is also proving detrimental to our oceans.

He said the goal of the Institute's research is to make insects an alternative to using soy-derived proteins that are often used in animal feed.
