"December and January which are the winter months in India are especially a good time to visit as there is a wide variety of native food to enjoy" says Sydney resident Sandip Patel. He has not visited India for the past 3 years so with border restrictions he missed out on his favourite dishes once again for the third year in a row.
Melbourne based International student Ganesh was planning to visit India for his cousin sister's wedding. "Attending weddings are a great way to meet extended family but I missed out on that opportunity as I could not travel to India for the wedding in July 2019" Ganesh told SBS Gujarati.

SBS Gujarati spoke to Gujaratis in Perth about what did they miss most about their home town. While almost unanimous answer was family, the list of things missed-most also included shopping, walk in the local park and visiting local temple.

Temporary resident Akshay Desai loves the kite flying festival Uttarayan which falls on 14th of January. He visits India every year in time to celebrate with his family but this year he missed flying kites.
Jigar and Sweety Patel are currently in Melbourne but their four year old daughter Swara is with the grandparents in India. "We were planning to take a trip to India during the Diwali festival to bring her home but international border closure ruined our plans and we are eagerly waiting to see her now" Jigar Patel told SBS Gujarati.
