Simran Grewal and her fiancé Anmol Sahota are all set to tie the knot in Sydney today.
But this is not what they had planned.
Their dream of getting married in Bali came to an abrupt end after flights in and out of their venue were cancelled due to the Mount Agung volcano erupting.
The couple had put in 12 months of planning and paid over $70,000 to vendors to arrange a four-day destination wedding with all the Indian traditional rituals including sangeet, henna, wedding and reception to celebrate their three year relationship.
But all their plans and money went up in smoke.
“It was a mess ... heartbreak ... there were so many questions from everyone. Some were coming from America and Canada ... my phone was blowing up.”
The pair were at Kuala Lumpur airport when they were forced to cancel their Bali destination wedding. They had to re-plan their wedding as family and friends were flying in from abroad.
“If you had spoken to me the day before yesterday I would’ve been crying,” Ms Grewal said.
The couple is getting married on Thursday in Sydney with a reception planned on Friday.
They had not insured the wedding event and are still negotiating with vendors for a refund.
“All the vendors want to keep a per cent of the payment,” she said.
“We are just shattered it was called off.”
