Man arrested and charged with Arishma Singh's murder

Detective Inspector Gary Lendrum said police believe the suspect was known to Arishma Singh as there was no sign of forced entry.

A 41-year-old man charged with the murder of a young Indian mother, Arishma Singh aka Arishma Chand, appeared in court on Thursday.

24-year-old Arishma Singh was found dead inside her home in Auckland, New Zealand on early Sunday morning. 

A local 41-year-old man was arrested and charged with Singh's murder on Wednesday, reported.

He was produced in at the Manukau District Court on Thursday morning where he was granted interim name suppression by Judge Gerard Winter.

He was remanded in custody until his next appearance in the High Court at Auckland next month.

Judge Winter has also suppressed further details of the case.

The 24-year-old mother of one, Arishma was found in a pool of blood at her home by her parents in the early hours of Sunday morning.

She had just returned from a friend's birthday party when she called her parents that someone was outside the house.

Her parents found her dead body 20 minutes later at home.

Singh was separated from her husband and their 3-year-old daughter lived with her and her parents.

Her parents Rakesh and Aradhana Singh had been out on Saturday night to see relatives and her daughter with her father, Singh’s ex-husband.

Police earlier said there was no sign of forced entry and they do not believe the killing was random.

Detective Inspector Gary Lendrum earlier told media that he had a "gut feeling" that Singh knew her killer and allowed them into her home.
