Minister of Local Government, Tourism, Cultural Affairs, and Museums of the State of Punjab, Navjot Sidhu raised these issues with Australian High Commissioner in India Harinder Sidhu.
Ms Sidhu was on a visit to Punjab last week. She met several leaders including Mr Navjot Sidhu.
Mr Sidhu told media persons, "Australia has great strength and technical prowess to market crops in the world market. I have requested the Australian High Commissioner to help Punjab market its crops worldwide using Australian expertise, and she has also assured of all help."
Mr Sidhu indicated that Punjab's Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh could visit Australia shortly.
“I will discuss the issue with Amarinder Singh, and soon a delegation will be sent to Australia to know strategies," he said.
Sidhu wants collaboration between Punjab and Australia to boost the state's tourism.
Harinder Sidhu responded positively. She said "Yes, the marketing of crop into the world market is a great idea and initiative shown by the minister here. We in Australia expertise in this and will look forward to giving ample support to Punjab.”
“Australia is one of the most sought-after destinations, and Amritsar also has seen a rise in the number of 25000 tourists per day. We need to tap this potential further and after taking Australian know how on this, efforts will be to bolster the tourism further," Navjot Sidhu said.
Ms Sidhu was “thrilled” to be in Amritsar. It was her first visit to Amritsar, and she tweeted about it in Gurmukhi too. She tweeted, “ਸਤਿ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ! Thrilled to be in #Amritsar on my first visit. #IncredibleIndia.”
