Travelling to India? Here's how to re-verify your Indian sim card

Many NRIs travel to India during Christmas break. Some are facing difficulties in re-verification of their Indian mobile connections. Therefore, telecom department has outlined a detailed procedure for companies to undertake mobile re-verification of NRIs and foreign nationals.

The telecom department has outlined a procedure for the telecom companies like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and Jio to undertake SIM re-verification of those who do not have Aadhaar card.

The department had received various representations from NRIs and Overseas Indians citing difficulties due to absence of Aadhaar, . This set of subscribers is not able to re-verify their Indian mobile connections as they are not eligible to enrol for Aadhaar.

The department has instructed telecom companies to operationalize the process for these subscribers by January 1, 2018.

The licencees must ensure that...subscribers should "be able to re-verify their mobile connections through these alternative methods by January 1, 2018", the DoT said in an order.

So, if you are a foreign national but are using an Indian mobile number, all you need to fill a simple online form. Verify your mobile number by filling an online form on the website of your service provider and upload the copies of your passport and visa.
