2025 Australia day Honour: Professor Veena Sahajwalla receives 'Officer of the Order of Australia'

Scientia Professor Veena Sahajwalla from Sydney has been named an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) on Australia Day for her contributions to science, sustainable materials research, and waste management. In this podcast with SBS Hindi, she discusses her innovative 'green steel' polymer injection technique and other research projects.


Since 2021, Professor Veena Sahajwalla has been the head of the Micro Recycling Research Hub at the Australian Research Council and the University of New South Wales.

She stated, "While we all appreciate the importance of recycling, leveraging scientific solutions to create alternative materials truly fulfills our goal."

Professor Sahajwalla emphasised that achieving a more sustainable future requires collaboration among communities, manufacturers, investors, and researchers who can provide innovative scientific solutions.
