'Termasuk: Contemporary art from Indonesia' is presented by John Cruthers and Indo Art Link in association with Darren Knight Gallery. The exhibition was opened last Saturday in the Sydney gallery, and includes works in a diverse range of media – painting, works on paper, prints, textiles, embroidery, ceramics and sculpture that reflecting the Indonesian art scene.
John Cruthers, an art adviser and collector, started collecting Indonesian artwork since first visiting the country in 2014. "From my first purchase I’ve been confident that other Australian collectors would share my enthusiasm if I could find a way to introduce them to the work. Meeting Lauren Parker has helped make this possible, with Termasuk the outcome of five years of meeting artists and looking at their work,” he said.
Also attending the opening ceremony was the Indonesian Consul General for NSW, Queensland, and SA Mr. Heru Hartanto Subolo. In his remark, he conveyed that this exhibition is an embodiment of one of the pillars in the Australia-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, namely connecting people to people, through works of art.
Co-curator Lauren Parker, who is also the founder of Indo Art Link, spoke to SBS Indonesian on the event.
