Major floods hit parts of Jakarta after heavy rains on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PURR) Basuki Hadimuljono disagreed with DKI Governor Anis Baswedan regarding the cause of the flood.
PURR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono believes that the severity of flooding in several areas in Jakarta occurred because of the normalization project of the Ciliwung River has not been completed and has been stagnant since 2017.
However, Governor DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan said that the flooding was caused by uncontrolled water from the South to DKI and not because of the stopage of Ciliwung river program.
Indonesian BMKG estimates that heavy rains will continue to fall until mid-February and warn people to stay alert for further floods or landslides.
