A collaboration between Melbourne and Makassar filmmakers made a film about the Toraja people.

A River in the Middle of the Sky is a film by Chris Cochrane-Friedrich and Wahyu Al Mardhani of Dogmilk Films, a collective of independent filmmakers based in Melbourne, Makassar and New York.

The film tells the story of Victor Konda, a visually impaired videographer. However, his impairment does not prevent him from recording traditional traditions in his hometown, Tanah Toraja.

He documents things in Toraja that are unknown to outsiders through the company he created, Delta Sangalla' TV (DSTV). Like a loving family preparing for the funeral of a loved one, to the death of a young man who brings sorrow to a village.

The film A River in the Middle of the Sky interweaves DSTV footage taken over almost 20 years with contemporary images of Victor at work, showing how he preserves his work and coexists with the cultural life reflected in it.
