A parliamentary committee has recommended the government pass a controversial draft law threatening non-citizens with jail sentences if they are unwilling to co-operate in their deportation.
The bill gives the government the authority to force immigration detainees to comply with their removal from Australia, with a minimum 12-month jail sentence for those unwilling to co-operate.

The opposition also supported some of the legislation.
