An interview with Neilandra, the General Coordinator of students protest in Yogyakarta, named Gejayan Memanggil.


Massive university students’ protest in dubbed “Gejayan Memanggil” was held but has been suspiciously suppressed after the movement was targeted by numerous online attacks – accusing the protest was compromised by radical groups and political influences.

The protest is initially aimed to criticize Executive’s and Legislative’s passing of numerous problematic Draft Bills.

A number of university students’ unions that participated in the rally abruptly pulled fout after a meeting between the student's executive body (BEM) and their campus rectors.

Several Campuses in Yogyakarta issued circulars that they are not involved and do not support actions taken by students, workers and the community in Gejayan, Yogyakarta

Responding to the circulation of the circular from the campus, the Action Coordinator, Nailendra said that she  respected the decisions of the campus.

She also stressed that Gejayan Memanggil movement was not affiliated with any campus.

According to her, this movement is to carry the aspirations of citizens on a number of issues ranging from postponing the RKUHP to revising the KPK Law.
