In honor of the souls of Australian veterans who fought in the 6.25 War and for the future peace, Gyeonggi-do Kapyong-gun established the "Australian Garden of Friendship" in time for the opening of the Flower Garden on Jara Island.

The garden features flowers such as pansies, surfinias and lupines, as well as an "I Love Australia" sculpture and topiaries of a kangaroo and a koala.

Also the monumental photos of Australian soldiers who participated in the Battle of Kapyong (Gapyeong) in 1951 during the Korean War (1950-53) are displayed at the garden's observatory.

Australian Ambassador to Korea Catherine Rape visited last week the site to acknowledge the inauguration of the garden initiated by the Kapyong Council.
