Korean Cultural Centre Australia presents a series that reinterprets traditional Korean music in a modern way as part of a cultural event to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and South Korea.

Streamed for FREE via the Korean Cultural Centre’s and , the National Orchestra of Korea presents Sam-Sam-O-Rak 2 on Thursday 14 October. And on Thursday 21 October, alternative pop band LEENALCHI performs an electric selection of songs from their debut album Sugungga.

Sink into the charm of Korean music with the National Orchestra of Korea’s Sam-Sam-O-Rak 2. A multi collaboration music project with artists from different genres, this performance promises to enchant audiences with its charm and stripped-back style.

The first Sam-Sam-O-Rak was developed as a response to all the artists who had lost the stage due to the pandemic. Having received accolades from audiences and artists alike, National Orchestra of Korea decided to film a sequel in 2021 which will be presented as a part of Travel of Korea’s Sound.

This presentation of Sam-Sam-O-Rak 2 has been remastered into a special version to celebrate the anniversary of relations between Australia and South Korea and features five incredible sessions, titled: Breath, The Ferryboat and the Traveller, Arirang Five, A Wish from the East and Relation.

The alternative pop band LEENALCHI debuted in 2019 and have quickly gained a massive following, due in part to their unique way of storytelling through solos, choruses, rap and dance. Drawing inspiration from the 80’s new wave, the seven-piece band fuses traditional Korean pansori music with synth-pop vibes.

For Travel of Korea’s Sound, LEENALCHI promises to deliver their off-beat combination of traditional Korean storytelling and contemporary music styles, presenting six songs from their debut album Sugungga.

LEENALCHI said “It’s a pity we couldn't meet Australian audiences in person this time because of COVID-19, but the 60th diplomatic anniversary online performance will give Australian audiences a wonderful opportunity to connect with this commemoration of long-standing friendship between the two countries.

“We truly hope is that COVID-19 will end soon, allowing the border to reopen and us to perform in front of people in Australia," said LEENALCHI.

Korean Cultural Centre Australia Director Jihee Kim said “We are delighted to present a contemporary interpretation of traditional Korean music at the 60th diplomatic anniversary concert”

“Those who are unfamiliar with traditional Korean music will be introduced to a new genre of music that is distinct from K-pop, and audiences already familiar with traditional Korean music will be able to appreciate the genre from a new perspective. I'm hoping that this virtual concert, which has been specially prepared for Australian viewers, will provide some relief to those who have grown weary of the prolonged impacts of COVID-19,” said Jihee Kim.
