635 people died on Australia's roads in the first half of the year, that's fourteen per cent higher than 2018.

In 2011, state, territory, and federal governments signed the National Road Safety Strategy. It aimed to reduce road deaths and injuries by thirty per cent by 2020.

Yet the only state or territory on target to meet that aim is the Australian Capital Territory, with Australia's five largest states all failing.

And that's brought stinging criticism from Australia's peak motoring body, the Australian Automobile Association.

It's blaming government inaction for the problem.
