Most Afghan students are not returning from abroad

Afghan Higher Education Delegation lead by Professor Hamidullah Farooqi Advisor to the Afghan President and Chancellor of Kabul University are in Australia for meeting key universities and higher education institutions.


When Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani visited Australian in 2017, the higher education was discussed as a high priority, and both governments of Australia and Afghan have recognized the importance of cooperation in the higher education sector.

Afghanistan Embassy in Australia has played a key role in an organized meeting of the delegates with more than ten Australian universities and institutions.

Talking to SBS Pashto program, Prof. Farooqi said, the Afghan delegate’s proposal has been welcomed by almost all the universities and institutes, and he is hopeful that Afghanistan will benefit from Australian universities.

Speaking of challenges, Prof. Farooqi said the biggest issue for the Afghan government is that most of the students and lecturer sent overseas for higher education are not returning to Afghanistan.

Prof. Farooqi says that the Afghan Higher education authority has made a policy which is making it harder for a student not to return to Afghanistan.
