Saudi King invites mosque shooting survivors to take part in the Hajj

A group of survivors and relatives of the mosque shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand, have been given the opportunity to take part in the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca.


The Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, and all able-bodied Muslims are expected to perform it once in their lifetime.

An initial group of survivors and relatives from the New Zealand mosque shootings left Christchurch on Thursday ((1st Aug)) to take part in the annual pilgrimage in Mecca and more will leave in the days to come.

Fifty-one people died and another 49 were injured in two consecutive terrorist attacks at mosques in the suburbs of Riccarton and Linwood during Friday prayers on March 15th.Two hundred relatives and survivors from the shootings will be traveling to Saudi Arabia as guests of Saudi King Salman.
