At least 125 people have died of influenza across Victoria so far this year, health department figures show, with a warning the virus is still spreading.

More than 100 Victorians, including eight children, have died from influenza so far this year. The deaths come as more than 50,000 people have been diagnosed with the virus across the state in 2019.

Victorian health department data shows 105 people who died from the flu were living in residential aged care. Of the other 20 living in the broader community, 12 were adults and eight were children under the age of 15.

The figures run-up to 31 August and compare with data from the start of that month showing there had been at least 75 flu-related deaths and 40,000 cases of the virus. For more details, please listen to the full interview in Pashto.
