At the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, India continues to win. Currently, with 11 gold medals in its kitty, India is amongst the top performing nations, being at number three in the gold medals tally and number six in the overall ranking.

The latest additions to India’s medals tally were made by shooter Heena Sidhu who won gold in women’s 25m pistol. She beat Australian Elena Galiabovitch to win India’s 11th gold in this Commonwealth Games and her first individual gold in three editions of the Commonwealth Games.

Earlier on Monday, Jitu Rai won a gold medal in the Men’s 10m shooting contest, as did the men’s team in table tennis and the mixed doubles team in badminton.

After the most-hyped clash of the Commonwealth Games – the India vs Pakistan hockey match -- ended in a disappointing draw on April 7, India has now beaten Malaysia 2-1 to reserve its berth in the semi-final match to be held later this week. With this, India’s hockey team leads their group table.

Meanwhile, India’s shooters have also qualified for the final competition slated for later this week. After bagging a silver medal in the 10 m women’s shooting contest, Heena Sidhu has now entered the final stage in the 25 m Women’s competition, along with Annu Singh. In the Men’s 50 m Rifle Prone contest, Gagan Narang and Chain Singh have made it to the final which will be held later today.
With these entries into the finals, India’s hopes of adding more medals to its kitty are strengthened. India’s shooters are on a winning streak and that has heightened the expectations of all those rooting for India.

Mohammad Anas Yahiya scripted history by becoming the first athlete after Milkha Singh to qualify for a 400m final track and field event. The last time India made it to this stage was in 1958 when Singh won a gold medal the Empire Games, which later became known as Commonwealth Games.

Last week, India opened its account at the Commonwealth Games with its contestants from weightlifting dominating the medals tally. Chanu Saikhom Mirabai won India the first gold medal in Women’s 56 kg weightlifting while Gururaja brought home the country’s first silver medal in the Men’s 56 kg weightlifting contest. India’s current tally stands at 19 with 10 gold, four silver and five bronze medals.

In the overall rankings, India is currently led by Australia, England, Canada, Scotland and New Zealand.
