An Indian couple was rushed a Melbourne hospital in critical condition after being hit be a car in Melbourne’s inner southeast.
Girish and Devika, both in their 40s, were walking on Hawthorn Road in Brighton East. They were struck by a car turning right while the couple was crossing North road at about 7 pm.
Girish reportedly suffered serious head and chest injuries in the crash. Paramedics stabilised his condition at the scene and he was taken to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition.
Devika was treated for head injuries and she was also taken to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition.
Both Girish and Devika arrived in Australia about three weeks back from Chennai in India through their employer, a global professional consulting company.
Family members from India will soon arrive in Melbourne.
A member of the Indian Tamil community in Melbourne told SBS Punjabi that the couple's two children are being cared for by their colleagues.
The driver of the car involved in the carash, a 60-year-old man, was not injured and was interviewed by the police.
