Navjot Singh Sidhu’s newly-formed political front ‘Awaaz-e-Punjab’ is in negotiations with the Congress party to have an alliance for the upcoming Punjab election, reported.
Simarjit Singh Bains, MLA from Ludhiana and a founding member of Awaaz-e-Punjab confirmed that Sidhu is negotiating the seat-sharing with the Congress.
The front had earlier issued a statement accusing the Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh of being “hand-in-glove” with the Badals. Awaaz-e-Punjab has also maintained that it would not have an alliance with “Amarinder-led Congress”.
It’s not clear how many seats the front has asked for in the seat sharing formula with Congress. The Bains brothers had demanded 12 seats for their outfit, Insaaf group when they were negotiating with the AAP.
Navjot Singh Sidhu had announced the formation of his political front earlier this month along with former Indian Hockey captain and Akali legislator Pargat Singh and the Bains brother. Sidhu had said the front would be a platform for the “like-minded people” for the betterment of Punjab.
Speculations were rife about Sidhu joining the Aam Aadmi Party after he resigned from Rajya Sabha. However, he later said Kejriwal did not want him to contest the election.
Sidhu also rebuffed overtures by Congress leadership in Punjab, including Capt Amarinder Singh who had invited him to join the party.
