The Australian NRI who purportedly accused Sucha Singh Chhotepur of demanding money for a party ticket was convicted in Australia in 2011.
Ravinder Kang, a taxi driver in Brisbane, was ordered to perform 125 hours of community service after he pleaded guilty to causing bodily harm to a 19-year-old woman, .
Kang’s 19-year-old passenger fell out of the cab as he drove off ignoring a red light while she was trying to get out of the car.
His case had triggered a debate over English language skills of taxi drivers in Brisbane as the Judge acknowledge that Kang’s lack of English skills had caused him to think that the girl was avoiding to paying the fare.
The Judge held that Kang’s behaviour was “offensive, unsafe, negligent”.
“Kang had asked the woman and her two friends to pay upfront, but they refused. When they got to Wynnum, one felt sick and asked him to stop the cab. As she was sick, one of her friends hopped out to assist, leaving the 19-year-old in the cab.When the 19-year-old undid her seatbelt, Kang drove off, ignoring a red light. He stopped and held her arm, then drove forward again. Kang let go of the woman while the taxi was travelling at a speed of between 20-40kmh and she fell out of the cab,” Brisbane Times had reported.
reported on Wednesday that the NRI from Australia was Ravinder Kang who came under the spotlight after AAP leader Bhagwant Mann said that former Punjab convener of AAP had accepted money from the NRI for a party ticket.
Kang is reportedly an AAP ticket aspirant from Ferozepur.
SBS Punjabi tried to contact Mr Kang for a comment. But he did not answer phone calls.
Chhotepur was removed from the position of Punjab convener after an alleged sting operation showing him accepting money.
Sucha Singh Chhotepur denied the allegations.
