32-year-old Parwinder Kaur died in December 2013, one day after suffering severe burns to 90 per cent of her body, at her Rouse Hill house in Sydney's northwest.

Her body was "engulfed in a ball of fire" the previous night and she was taken hospital in a critical state.

Kulwinder Singh, 37, was arrested by NSW Police last month in relation to Parwinder Kaur's death four years ago.

Police said it was a very complex investigation where there were no third-party witnesses to the matter and they’d to rely heavily on the specialist analysis of the evidence.
In a case hearing at the Parramatta Local Court, Mr Singh’s lawyer persuaded the magistrate that his client should no longer be held in custody.

The lawyer emphasised that there is no evidence linking his client to the fuel, .

The Court was told that the fingerprints retrieved from a jerry can and cigarette lighter found at the scene belonged to Ms Kaur and not her husband.

"His conduct is consistent with him trying to help the deceased," said the lawyer.

When neighbours responded to the incident, Singh was heard saying, "She did it to herself. Please don't let them think I did it".

The lawyers also told the court Mr Singh needed inpatient psychiatric care out of this custody.

reports forensic psychiatrist Dr Gerald Chew told the court “clinically, Mr Singh is suffering from a major depressive episode. He is at a very high risk of suicide.”

Magistrate Theo Tsaudaridis agreed that the Crown case was “almost entirely circumstantial“ and based on the given evidence he granted bail to Mr Singh under strict conditions.

The next court hearing is in February.
