An Indian-origin wrestler has won a gold medal in 53kg wrestling division at the Australian National Wrestling Championship.
Rupinder Kaur won the national championship that was held at Craigie Leisure Centre, Perth on 6 October.
Earlier this year, she represented Australia at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
“I had to work really hard for this gold medal. I had a dismal performance at the Gold Coast. I was struggling with an injury that happened just before the Commonwealth Games,” she said.
“My performance at GC2018 was a set-back but now I am proud that I am back to turf with this achievement.”Rupinder said she was nervous at the start of the tournament.

“It’s hard when you have injuries and repeated failures. But I am glad that I was able to beat both my opponents with big margins,” she said.
“I had both my victories within a few minutes. I knew that at times, technique and experience count more than physical strength. So I held my nerves."Rupinder has so far won eight gold medals at different national level competitions held across Australia.
