Brisbane taxi driver Gurpreet Singh Grewal has been jailed to three-and-a-half years’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to charges of rape and two counts of sexual assault.

Brisbane District Court heard on Friday that 26-year-old Grewal gave flowers to one of his victims a few days after he raped her.

The former taxi driver picked up his first victim on 13th May last year and asked for sex in exchange for a free fare.

When the woman refused, he raped her, the Australian Associated Press reported.

"(She was) clearly vulnerable as a result of her consumption of liquor," Judge John Coker said.

The court heard Grewal went to his victim’s home with a bouquet of flowers, a few days later, to apologise.

Two months later, he assaulted another female passenger and offered her money for “further acts”.

"I would obviously infer they have been traumatised and disturbed as a result of your offending," Justice Coker said.

Grewal was arrested in December 2017 and received bail four months later. He tried to board a flight at the Brisbane international airport but was re-arrested.

He also pleaded guilty to bail breaches.

His three and a half years sentence will be suspended after 12 months and he will be deported to India upon his release from jail.
